Who you are buying from

WAGAHAI is the trading name of Irankoppe NL, a sole proprietorship registered in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Prices and VAT

All prices are shown in euro and include Dutch VAT at the reduced rate of 9% that applies to books. Postage is charged on top; the rates are set out under Postage and delivery below.

Ordering and payment

Payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout page and are never seen or stored by us. A receipt is sent by email automatically once a payment succeeds. Your order is confirmed at that moment.

Where we ship

Books are packed and sent from The Hague, and we deliver to the 27 member states of the European Union. We do not ship anywhere else at the moment, so a country outside the EU cannot be chosen at checkout. If you are elsewhere and want a particular book, write to us at wagahai@irankoppe.com and we will tell you what is possible.

Because parcels stay within the EU, there are no customs formalities, import duties or handling fees to pay on arrival. The VAT due is already included in the price you see.

Postage and delivery

Postage is added at checkout once you enter a delivery address, so you see the full total before paying. Orders are usually dispatched within three working days of payment, and delivery within the EU then takes about three to eight working days.

Every parcel is sent tracked, and the tracking number is emailed to you when the book is posted. Delivery times are estimates from the carrier rather than guarantees — a parcel occasionally takes longer, particularly around public holidays. Please check the delivery address before paying, since that is where the book will be sent.

Almost everything here exists in a single copy. Once a book is sold, its page stays up but can no longer be bought.

If a parcel goes missing

Every parcel is tracked, so we can usually see where it has got to. If the tracking stops moving, write to us and we will chase it with the carrier. If a book has still not reached you fifteen working days after dispatch, we treat it as lost and refund you in full, including the postage you paid. Until a book is in your hands it travels at our risk, not yours.

If a parcel comes back to us

A parcel that is refused, or that is not collected from the carrier's pick-up point in time, is sent back to us. We are glad to post it out again, but the postage for the second attempt is payable by you. If you would rather not receive it after all, that counts as cancelling your order and we refund you on the terms set out below.

Condition

Many of these books are out of print and were bought second-hand. Where a book is not new, its condition is described on its own page, and it is sold as described. Japanese books of a certain age often show light foxing or a sunned spine; where anything more than that is present, it is written down. If a description turns out to be wrong, that is covered below.

Your right to cancel

If you are buying as a consumer in the European Union, you may cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. Tell us by email at wagahai@irankoppe.com before that period ends. You then have a further 14 days to send the book back.

Return postage is at your own expense, and the book must come back in the condition in which it arrived — read, certainly, but not marked, and packed as carefully as it was sent. We refund the purchase price and the original shipping cost within 14 days of receiving the book back, or of receiving proof that you have sent it, whichever is earlier. The refund goes to the card you paid with.

If something arrives damaged or wrongly described

Write to us within 14 days of delivery with a photograph. If a book was damaged in transit, or does not match what its page said about it, we arrange the return at our own cost and refund you in full. This is separate from, and in addition to, the right to cancel above.

Governing law

Dutch law applies to these terms and to any purchase made through this site. Nothing here limits the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law in your own country.
